What to expect
Your first appointment will begin with a thorough review of your health history and the symptoms you are experiencing. Please fill out your paperwork completely, as even minor details may be clinically significant. The purpose of our discussion is to get a complete picture of what is happening in your body.
The second half of your visit will consist of your treatment. Relaxation is important during your treatment as you will be asked to verify changes in any painful and/or tight areas that we find during your treatment. These “reference” points indicate the overall condition of your body and help evaluate the result of treatment. Sterile, disposable acupuncture needles and moxa, a topical warming herb, may be included.
How to prepare for your visit
Please arrive to your appointment a few minutes early so you have time to relax yourself. Avoid drinking coffee the day of your treatment, and eat some protein an hour or so before your arrival. Wear comfortable clothing, as we need access to your limbs, abdomen, and back to treat you properly.
After your treatment
In addition to receiving acupuncture treatment, your lifestyle and routine are important to your healing process. After treatments:
- Keep hydrated with warm or room-temperature fluids. Refrain from cold drinks and alcohol. Do not eat too much.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, sexual activity, swimming or bathing (showers are OK) until the following day.
- Plan on going to bed reasonably early so your body can rest and absorb the treatment
Because Shakuju Therapy is resetting your body, you may experience uncomfortable sensations after your treatment. Though not everyone experiences them, they are part of the healing process, and generally settle down within 24 hours. Please note any observable changes you experience between treatments, whether subtle or obvious, and report them at your next visit.
This practice accepts insurance for acupuncture patients. In order to best serve you we can verify your insurance benefits before you arrive. Please click on the link below and complete the online form. We will contact you as soon as the benefits are established.
Please allow us 2 business days to complete your verification.
