Living with persistent symptoms changes more than how your body feels.
It changes how you plan your days.
How much you commit to.
How often you wonder whether you’ll have the energy.
How much attention is spent managing yourself instead of simply living.
Perhaps you’ve become accustomed to working around pain. Or measuring the day by your energy. Or hoping tomorrow will be a little better than today.
Over time, these adjustments become so familiar that they almost disappear into daily life.
Until one day you realize how much of your life has quietly become organized around your symptoms.
Looking Beyond Individual Symptoms
Many of my patients have already explored other approaches.
They’ve tried specialists, medications, physical therapy, chiropractic care, supplements, dietary changes, or other forms of treatment.
Some have helped, and some have not. Few have brought everything together.
Pain influences sleep. Sleep influences energy. Stress changes digestion. Inflammation affects everything.
The body doesn’t experience these as separate problems.
Neither do I. Understanding how these patterns relate to one another is an important part of understanding how healing begins.
A Different Question
Much of healthcare begins by asking, “What’s wrong?” Sometimes that’s the right place to start.
The question that guides my work is different: How can we best support your body’s ability to recover?
Even after months or years of persistent symptoms, the body is rarely doing only one thing.
Alongside the pain, the fatigue, or the inflammation, there are also healthy responses.
There are places where the body is adapting, regulating, protecting – trying to restore balance.
My work begins by recognizing those responses.
Not because they solve everything, but because they tell us where recovery is still possible.
Careful Observation Guides Every Treatment
My practice is based on Shakuju Therapy, a Japanese style of acupuncture that values careful observation and gentle treatment.
Before deciding what to do, I want to understand how your body is responding. I’m paying attention to your breathing. Your posture. Your muscle tone. Your complexion. How your pulse feels.
I pay close attention to the subtle changes that happen throughout treatment. Those observations guide every decision that follows.
I remain with you for the entire session because your body’s responses matter.
Many people are surprised that I use a single acupuncture needle and that it isn’t inserted into the body.
The treatment is gentle.
The intention isn’t to make something happen to your body. It’s to offer the smallest, most appropriate support and observe how your body responds.
Each treatment develops from that conversation.
No two people receive exactly the same care, because no two people live exactly the same life.
What Improvement Often Looks Like
Recovery is usually quieter than people expect.
Sleep becomes deeper. The shoulders soften. Energy becomes steadier. Pain occurs less often or settles more quickly. Digestion becomes more comfortable. Recovery after physical or emotional stress takes less time.
You find yourself thinking less about your symptoms because they occupy less of your attention.
You notice a certain resiliency return to your life. Your ability to ‘bounce back’ increases.
These changes are often gradual.
Together, they allow life to become larger again.
Acupuncture is a safe, gentle, and evidence-informed treatment with good evidence for reducing pain, improving sleep, supporting nervous system regulation, and improving quality of life for many chronic conditions.
The Goal Is Not Simply Symptom Relief
Reducing pain matters. Sleeping well matters. Having more energy matters. These are important measures of progress.
Over time, something else often changes. People begin trusting their bodies again. They stop anticipating the next setback.
They become more confident in what their bodies can do instead of focusing only on what they cannot.
One patient described it simply:
“I feel more like myself again.”
I can’t think of a better description.
Is This the Right Fit?
This practice is for people who value thoughtful, individualized care.
People who prefer understanding over quick answers.
People who appreciate careful observation and a gentle approach.
People who are willing to participate in their own recovery with patience and curiosity.
My role isn’t to impose healing. It is to observe carefully, think broadly, and support your body’s own capacity to recover.
That process is different for every person.
If this approach resonates with you, I invite you to schedule your initial visit.
About Me

My name is Robert Ziemanis. I am a licensed acupuncturist, and the only specialist of Shakuju Therapy in New Jersey.
I operate from a simple principle: that every person already possesses an inherent capacity for health, balance, and wholeness. Illness doesn’t erase that. We work together to perceive, support, and help it emerge more fully.
If you agree that your essential self is already there, and that it has simply become obscured by symptoms and the demands of life, you’ve found yourself in the right place.
What makes Shakuju Therapy unique?

- Treatment is performed without needle insertions, making for a painless acupuncture experience. Even very sensitive and needle-phobic people can take advantage of the benefits of acupuncture treatment.
- It is characterized by very gentle treatment methods. This makes it ideal for a wide range of patients, such as elderly, very young, and those in a sick and weakened condition.
- It is known for its ability to treat difficult cases. Because it treats the body on a more fundamental level, it corrects deep imbalances. It can treat issues that have not previously responded to acupuncture therapy.
- Immediate results are noted. Patients commonly notice marked improvement after their first treatment, including reduced pain, improved bodily function, balanced nervous system, increased vitality and resistance to disease, and overall well-being.
- Treatments are highly individualized. The practitioner is hands-on the entire appointment, monitoring the body’s response and administering appropriate level of therapy, so you can have confidence you are receiving the proper level of treatment.
